The Story

Jack takes a job to end a woman's life, and finds instead a reason to want one of his own.

Jack Landon works quietly for people who pay well to keep things quiet — wealthy businessmen, political figures, men with enough money to make their problems disappear. He does not ask many questions, and he keeps his personal life separate from his work.

Evelyn Grant comes from an old American family with money, influence, and connections that reach far beyond Miami. When she discovers evidence connecting powerful people to a larger network of corruption, she becomes a problem someone wants removed — and Jack's next assignment.

He starts by watching her from a distance. But Evelyn notices him first, and surveillance turns into familiarity, familiarity into conversation. Neither of them understands exactly when the relationship changes.

Their lives intersect across a Miami caught between old wealth and a rapidly changing world: white Coral Gables houses behind gates and hedges, dark restaurants filled with businessmen who rarely need to raise their voices, boats moving across Biscayne Bay as the city changes character after sunset.

As Jack gets closer to Evelyn, the assignment becomes harder to complete. He begins questioning the men who hired him, the reasons behind the job — and the life he has built for himself. For the first time, Jack has something to lose.

The Look

Concept art of the Triumph Spitfire in a rain-lit Miami alley
Concept art

The Last Good Man aims for the texture of a film that escaped its own decade rather than one that tries to imitate it. The period influence comes through locations, automobiles, clothing, and photography — not exaggerated nostalgia.

The camera observes rather than announces itself. Scenes have room to breathe; conversations continue without rushing toward the next plot point. Daylight feels warm and open, almost overwhelming; night scenes turn darker and more intimate, lit by practical lamps, restaurant light, and reflections off the water.

At the center of Jack's world is his 1967 Triumph Spitfire — a dark blue roadster, elegant without being extravagant, that carries him through quiet residential streets and into places where its small size contrasts with the wealth surrounding it.

Julio Aguilera wrote the complete feature-length screenplay for The Last Good Man — a character-driven crime story that moves between surveillance, conversation, travel through Miami, and long stretches of silence, treating the city as part of the story rather than a backdrop. About the Director

Julio Aguilera is the writer and director behind The Last Good Man, and the founder of Adler Studios. He is currently studying international relations and affairs at Florida International University.

He has loved movies and scriptwriting for as long as he can remember, and has written several feature-length screenplays before bringing his attention to this project — his most ambitious to date.

Fun fact: as a child, Aguilera performed as a young pianist on the Disney Springs Waterside Stage alongside students from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music.

Auditions

Auditions opening soon. For early consideration, submit a short audition video below or email it directly.
Submit an Audition

The Last Good Man is an independent student feature film set in Miami and South Florida. We are currently seeking actors for principal, supporting, and smaller speaking roles. This is a student production and all roles are volunteer/unpaid — we're looking for people who genuinely want to be part of making a feature film and are willing to work seriously and collaboratively with a student filmmaking team. Professional acting experience is not required.

Actors are welcome to audition using any scene from the screenplay they feel best represents their abilities and fits the character they're auditioning for — you don't need to use a scene specifically selected by the production.

Principal Roles
Jack LandonLead

A former Marine living alone in Miami who works as a discreet fixer for wealthy businessmen and political figures — quiet, disciplined, observant, extremely self-controlled. Capable of violence but doesn't enjoy it. The role requires an actor who can communicate through subtle expression, body language, and silence rather than constant dialogue.

Evelyn GrantLead

A young woman from an extremely wealthy, influential American family — intelligent, independent, socially confident, curious, but never entirely comfortable in the privileged world she was born into. Needs strong chemistry with Jack and the ability to feel intelligent and independent without reading as a stereotypical "strong female character."

Charles HarrowSupporting / Antagonist

A powerful Miami businessman with extensive political and financial connections — sophisticated, patient, controlled, and often charming in public. Not a conventional villain; he genuinely can't understand why someone like Jack would throw everything away for another person.

Supporting Roles
Frank Okafor

A former Marine and one of Jack's oldest friends — more relaxed and sociable, with an ordinary family life. Should feel casual and natural rather than a stereotypical "old friend who gives advice."

Tommy Reyes

One of Harrow's principal associates, handling surveillance and coordination. Experienced, pragmatic, generally calm — not blindly devoted to Harrow.

David Mercer

An investigative newspaper reporter working with Evelyn — experienced, skeptical, and careful about what he publishes. Should feel like an actual working journalist.

Walter Pruitt

An accountant who previously handled financial records for Harrow's companies — nervous, exhausted, deeply uncomfortable with what he knows.

Casting note: should convincingly read as an older man.

Aunt Claire

Evelyn's aunt — composed, observant, protective, and accustomed to the social world around the Grant family.

Ray Delacroix

A businessman connected to Harrow through real estate and politics — not a violent man, increasingly uneasy as things escalate.

Stroud

One of Harrow's enforcers — physically intimidating, quiet, experienced. Should feel like a real person who's done dangerous work for years, not a stock henchman.

Caroline & Peter

Evelyn's friend and her husband — outgoing and relaxed, appearing during the sailing sequence to establish Evelyn's ordinary social life.

Smaller Speaking & Featured Roles
Rosa

A longtime employee of Evelyn's family, protective and practical.

Casting note: should convincingly read as an older woman.

Councilman Walt Prescott

A Miami politician who has benefited from Harrow's influence — nervous under pressure but trying to appear in control.

Mr. Vance

A lawyer working for Harrow — precise and emotionally controlled.

Casting note: should read as an established older professional.

Hendricks

Evelyn's family lawyer — restrained and serious.

Casting note: should read as an established older attorney.

Whitfield

A younger member of Harrow's organization, noticeably less hardened than the others — increasingly uncomfortable with where things are heading.

The Editor, Assistant D.A., Keys Market Clerk & more

Day-player and small roles including a newspaper editor, a young prosecutor, a Florida Keys shopkeeper, and background roles across Miami's social world, the marina, and the Keys.

We're not looking for actors who necessarily "look exactly" like the characters — presence, personality, chemistry, and natural performance matter more than matching a physical description. For younger characters especially, late teens through early 20s is completely acceptable. The few roles where age matters to the character are marked above. Professional experience is welcome, but not required.
